Mr. Coons is responsible for the development, implementation and management of the University's Environmental, Health and Safety Programs. He serves as a member of the Texas A & M University System Environmental, Health and Safety Council which assists the System Director of Risk Management and Safety by recommending uniform environmental, health and safety program guidelines. Prior to becoming the E,H&S Director, Mr. Coons was an instructor with the National Spill Control School, a component of the TAMU-CC College of Science and Technology which teaches classes in emergency response and safety. He is a Qualified Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Instructor as defined by the American Society of Safety Engineers. Mr. Coons earned a BS degree in Geology from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas.
Lorena Alvarez is the Senior Administrative Assistant for the Environmental, Health and Safety Department assisting and supporting the Director and Specialists. She recently started with the E,H&S Department in 2012. She is responsible for the administrative support to the overall operation of the Environmental, Health & Safety Department. Her duties include assisting in the development of the University's E,H&S manuals and editorial revisions of these documents. Lori maintains a communications link between the campus community and the E,H&S office and serves as the coordinator for the Environmental, Health & Safety Committee and the Environmental Advisory Council, maintaining the Minutes and membership. She works closely with Facilities Services and Health Services as well as building administrators for Fire Drills and University Safety Training Programs. Her duties also include departmental purchases and travel.
Mrs. Sara Ussery: Safety Specialist
Ms. Ussery is a Safety Specialist with the Environmental, Health and Safety Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Her duties include maintaining the safety and compliance of all laboratories on campus and managing employee safety programs. Prior to joining Environmental, Health and Safety, she was employed at the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science. Her education consists of a B.S. in Geology and a M.S. in Environmental Science from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Ms. Ussery is a registered Professional Geologist.
Nathan is the Environmental Specialist with the Environmental, Health and Safety Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. His duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining environmental compliance for all laboratories on campus, managing Hazardous Waste for the University, updated University procedures to correlate with environmental regulations, etc. Prior to joining Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, he was the Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator for Texas A&M University Kingsville. His education consists of a B.S. in Industrial Technology and a M.S. degree in Industrial Management from Texas A&M University Kingsville. Mr. Galvan is highly trained; Areas of interest include: Hazardous Material Management, Industrial Hygiene, Laboratory Safety, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures.
